Minnesota Girls State is a life-changing leadership and citizenship program that empowers young women to discover their potential, strengthen their confidence, and make a positive impact in their communities.
Bringing together students from across the state, the program provides a hands-on opportunity to learn how government works by actively participating in it.
Throughout this immersive experience, participants form cities, create a state government, campaign for office, debate important issues, vote on legislation, and take on leadership roles. Along the way, they build valuable skills in communication, teamwork, critical thinking, problem-solving, and public speaking. Just as importantly, they learn the value of civic engagement, respectful dialogue, and working with others to achieve common goals.
Girls State is more than a lesson in government. It is a transformative experience that helps young women find their voice, build lasting friendships, and gain confidence in their ability to lead. Participants leave with a deeper understanding of public service, a broader perspective on their role as citizens, and the belief that their ideas can make a difference.
To reach more future leaders, Girls State must combine strong school partnerships with effective use of technology. Working with educators and using digital tools helps us connect with students, share opportunities, and ensure more young women can benefit from this transformative experience.
